As the days get colder and the nights get darker, it's time to bid farewell to summer and embrace Autumn. Of course, that means our favourite seasonal treats are back at Southside's cafes. Pumpkin spice fans, rejoice - Starbucks, home to the original PSL, has its signature autumnal drink back on the menu and it's even better than before. It's made with a tempting combination of Starbucks Espresso Roast, pumpkin pie flavoured sauce and steamed milk, topped with whipped cream and cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. There's also a blended Frappuccino version available.
This year, vegans can join in on the fun as Starbucks has launched a vegan PSL with whipped cream. There's also a vegan pumpkin spice cookie and a s'mores blondie brownie.
For lunch, you can tuck into the new plant-based meatball marinara wrap, brie, butternut and chutney focaccia sandwich or mac and cheese with kale and peas. We're already drooling...
Pret's trusty PSL is not be missed either, and it pairs perfectly with a caramel waffle. It can be made vegan with soya, oat or rice coconut milk. Plus, if you sign up for Pret's monthly coffee subscription service (which is entirely free for the first month), you can get your pumpkin spice fix as often as you like.
Savoury additions to the menu include Pret’s new chicken & chilli burrito, naked chicken katsu baguette and a meatless meatball protein pot: a vegan breakfast protein pot which combines mushrooms, chunky vegan meatballs and a generous portion of breakfast beans.
Greggs has also added a pumpkin spice latte to its menu, made with freshly ground fairtrade coffee beans, sweet pumpkin spice syrup, whipped cream and spiced sugar sprinkles. From just £1.95, it's the perfect accompaniment to your morning bacon sarnie or afternoon doughnut.
For an indulgent hot chocolate served with whipped cream and Belgian chocolate sprinkles, make Caffè Nero your shopping pitstop. If you're not big on coffee, their signature chai latte - made with black tea, steamed milk and an exotic blend of spices - is not to be missed.
If pumpkin spice isn't your thing, fear not - Costa has an enticing new range of 10 seasonal snacks that are sure to tickle your tastebuds.
These include a vegan gingerbread latte cookie, a gingerbread muffin, a Terry's chocolate orange brownie, an apple and caramel loaf cake and with Halloween just around the corner, a mallow pumpkin shortcake.
If you're more of a savoury person, there's a chicken & mushroom toastie on offer filled with chicken, mushrooms and cheese bechamel sauce and topped with cheesy white bread.
