As one of the biggest retail and leisure destinations in South West London, Southside Shopping Centre is passionate about serving the local community – which is why corporate social responsibility is at the heart of everything we do.
Community grants will be available for local charities to increase funding for challenges specific to our local communities. These unrestricted grants of up to £3,000 are designed to support not-for-profit organisations with daily activities. Funding opportunities will be transparent, with a shortlist created by the Charities Aid Foundation, and reviewed by community grants panels built from members local to each of our places. This will provide inside perspectives of what funding will make the greatest impact in each area, empowering the local community to make future-forward decisions.
We’ll be offering four funding rounds each year.
Southside works closely with both Wandsworth Borough Council and Wandsworth Town BID to support local businesses, schools and initiatives in a variety of ways, from hosting independent businesses and sellers in our Black History Month and Christmas markets, to providing a space for free art exhibitions curated by local schools and children. Southside has also worked with local artists and communities to host creative arts projects, workshops and more to help raise awareness of a number of important topics, including climate change, sustainability and mental health.
Throughout the year we also work with other organisations including the MET Police, Wandsworth Historical Society and the NHS to support our local community.
Each year we work with a number of different community groups and charities to help fundraising efforts and raise support. Some of those we have worked with in recent years include The Childhood Trust, Caius House, Carney’s Community, Hestia and Beyond Autism in our seasonal Toy Appeal, as well as Action Space as part of the Wandsworth Arts Festival, Work Match and many more.
Over Christmas 2023, Southside worked alongside St George's Hospital Charity and raised close to £1,000 with an in-centre gift-wrapping service and through the sale of blank Christmas cards. All of the money raised went to where the need is greatest within the St George’s and Queen Mary Hospitals.
We also hosted a seasonal Toy Appeal in support of Beyond Autism, where approximately 500 toys with an estimated total value of £1,000 were donated by Southside visitors and staff over a two-week collection period in December. All of these donations were then passed on to Beyond Autism to be distributed across the schools that Beyond Autism works with right here in Wandsworth.
